What a cool & classy thing to do by the Phoenix Coyotes for goalie Mike Smith after scoring a goal on October 19th. Smith became only the 11th goalie in history to score a goal in the NHL, a feat completed twice by Ron Hextall. Here's the cool promo video of the bobble-head giveaway in honor of Mike Smith's achievement:
Congrats again to Mike Smith, he is now tied in goals this season with Dany Heatley (Mike scored before Heatley).
Dont cry bro...it's OK...

Star Wars Night in the ECHL
Just read a story from the guys at For The Win & it looks like Toledo Walleye will be hosting a "Star Wars Night" against the Kalamazoo Wings on Saturday, November 2nd. They've made some really cool jerseys depicting the final showdown in Episode IV between Luke Skywalker & Darth Vader:
I wonder if Mickey Mouse gave his consent considering that Disney now makes decisions on its own over Mr. Lucas' legendary empire. Oh, & here's a cool .gif that they there on the article, too (freakin' awesome):

NHL Power Rankings: Week #4 (2013-14)
Some interesting stuff this week especially in the "Who's Hot?/Who's Not" list. We saw Carolina flip-flop twice, as well as Nashville & Minnesota switch hands. Calling all Vegas people: don't bet on these 3 clubs (at least for now). But before we continue, welcome to the Week #4 T.O.A.'s 2013-14 NHL Power Rankings!
San Jose's Power Index has dropped but is still above average. Buffalo is now showing how terrible they are (& expect it to continue after the Vanek/Moulson trade). And everyone in the middle is just shuffling around like tea-cups at the Magic Kingdom: we've finally hit our stride!
Nashville continues to have a low Power Index despite their 6-5-1 record due to terrible goal differential at that level of play. If this team continues to rely on defense, it will take them to the playoffs, but no further. The teams that succeed are the high caliber, well-rounded teams. Last year's Blackhawks & the 2011-12 Kings were pretty much an identical team in strength & roster set-up. A great defense with a well balanced attack wins championships. Anyways, hope you guys enjoy the Week #4 T.O.A. Power Rankings!:

Is 2013-14 Becoming the Year of the Head Shots?
Before I get into this, let me just say that I have mulling over this idea for a week now. Every time I think about writing on this subject, something new comes up (& it's usually more disturbing). It's finally time to push this to the front of the list & blow some steam off.
We aren't even done with the first month of the 2013-14 NHL season, & we have more concussions & suspensions than stats & games to talk about. Everyday on SiriusXM they moan & complain about Patrick Kaleta & John Scott. Mike Milbury on NBC post game (or whatever station you're watching him on, doesn't matter) went off on Buffalo Sabres' goon, John Scott, for his hit on Boston Bruins' Loui Ericsson & on coach Ron Rolston for not having any sense of discipline or remorse for the actions occurring in the locker room & on the ice. Check out Mike going off:
For once, I actually agree with Mike. My favorite term I've heard over the past few days to describe the play & attitude of Buffalo is "dumpster fire". Whether its filled with excrement or not, "dumpster fire"is the exact term I'd use for the Sabres. Here's the hit by Kaleta that seemed to start it all:
Aren't those Shanahan videos sexy? Gives me goosebumps every time I watch them. Anyways, as we can see by the two hits, they're almost in the exact same spot of the arena & by the same team on different dates. God this team is bad. Let's switch from the Sabres & show what other hits this year have warranted suspension:
I feel like this will continue this season. Either players are not keeping their head up, or there are simply that many malicious players out here today. Maybe the embellishment of a hit is creating injury. Rather than trying to roll off a hit or look back when going into a corner, players are trying to draw penalties for their team, then paying the ultimate penalty. Whatever it is, I hope it gets fixed soon. I do not want to write a "part 2" on this.

NHL Power Rankings: Week #3 (2013-14)
It's Week #3 of T.O.A.'s 2013-14 NHL Power Rankings! Some leveling out is occurring after the wild statistical start this season. For some, the odd stats continue to happen, especially at the polar opposites.
San Jose still has a Power Index up in double digits, showing how strong that club really is, while Philadelphia & Buffalo struggle with only one win each & a combined 15 losses, making them bottom dwellers after the horrendous start.
Nashville has a low Power Index despite having a respectable 5-3-1 record due to lack of scoring while being outscored. This goes to show that T.O.A.'s Power Ranks are not just about wins, losses, & who's the "talk of the town" at the moment. This provides a much more stable ranking system (which picked the Stanley Cup winner last year in Chicago). Anyways, hope you guys enjoy the Week #3 T.O.A. Power Rankings!:
