Fenwick Close Graphic Offers Some Interesting Insight

I'm a stats & table junkie, & when advanced stats are thrown around I jump on it. Thanks to Deadspin, they found this amazing table that takes a second to get used to. Ladies & gentlemen, welcome to the "Fenwick close" table.

According to them & the guy who created it, you first have to look at it counter-clockwise starting in the top-right corner. Then you start focusing on the rings & try to understand where the teams fall. These are results from the last 4 seasons. The numbers on the top & bottom of the screen are just tallies of the 4 quadrants so focus on those after you understand the graph.

Now here comes the interesting part of the advanced stat: the numbers that represent .400 to .599 are an average or mean percentage of the amount of shots take by a club, minus the blocked shots, vs. the amount of shots the other clubs throughout the year took against them. What you get is an advanced Fenwick stat vs. the result of the team in the season over a four year window. Definitely cool!
